Hey, it’s De’Shauna! Hoan’s first Social Media and Marketing Intern.

We’re really excited for De’Shauna’s role to expand after she graduates from Mount Mary University this Spring with a degree in Communications & Public Relations 🎉

What energizes you to come to work everyday?

I work with great people three times a week, and the vibe at Hoan Marketing is phenomenal. I feel energized when I’m working with great people, and I get that at Hoan. I also love what we do for our clients. We help people who are helping others, and I get to be in one of the front row seats. Getting to be a part of something that impacts so many communities everyday is something that gives me a sense of purpose and delight ✨

When you’re having a bad day, what do you do to make yourself feel better?

When I am having a bad day, I take a minute to gather my thoughts. Sometimes I’ll grab my journal and reflect for twenty minutes, or I’ll listen to Jhene Aiko because her music calms me 🎶 I just recently got into yoga, so I’ll even do some Sun Salutations to gather myself as well. Mental health is so important especially in the world we live in today. I think giving yourself at least twenty minutes of your day to calm yourself can be really beneficial.

What’s one of your favorite memories from the past year?

💍 One of my favorite memories from the past year was when I got engaged in July. All of my family and friends were around to witness such a beautiful part of my life. That day was also the happiest day of my life because it symbolized the beginning of forever with the person I love. In the next couple years, we’ll be saving for our big day! #datesoontocome

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was kid, I wanted to be a medical examiner for the city of Milwaukee. I watched a lot of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit when I was little, and I wanted to be like Dr. Melinda Warner. She was a Black medical examiner, and I wanted to do what she did for a living. However, I changed my mind when I found out how much school I had to complete to become a medical examiner. So, I just vicariously lived through her on the show.

What’s one professional skill you’re currently working on?

One professional skill I am currently working on is public speaking. I like talking to people, but I get nervous when speaking with a large audience. I haven’t had much practice with speaking in public, but it is something I want to be comfortable with as I get further in my career. Hopefully, I will have opportunities to get comfortable speaking in front of large audiences. One challenge I’ll be faced with regarding public speaking is possibly speaking at my graduation commencement ceremony in May 🗣 #fingerscrossed
